About Us

The Old Cliftonian Lodge, No.3340 is the masonic lodge associated with Clifton College in Bristol and was founded in 1909 to promote freemasonry amongst former pupils of the school, and since then has met continuously, currently holding our meetings at Freemasons' Hall, Great Queen St, London.

Freemasonry is one of the oldest secular social and charitable organisations in the world, modern Freemasonry’s roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our castles and cathedrals.

For Freemasons, there are four important values that help define their path through life:

  • Integrity,

  • Friendship,

  • Respect and

  • Service.

In today’s world filled with uncertainty, these principles ring as true now as they have at any point in the organisation’s history.

Membership of our Lodge is open to men over 18 who have a strong association with the School, either as a past pupil, member of staff, or parent and the organisation’s aim is to empower members to be the best they can be – it’s about building character, supporting members as individuals and helping them make a positive contribution to society.

Freemasonry provides a structure for members to come together under these common goals, enabling people to make new friendships, develop themselves and make valuable contributions to charitable causes.

If you would like to find out more about freemasonry in general please visit the United Grand Lodge of England website www.ugle.org.uk

The Lodge meets four times a year, three times in London and, with the Head’s permission, once a year at School. The Lodge has always been pleased to support the School and continues to do so today, including a donation to the School when we recently hosted the Public School Lodges' Festival.
